The storage tank systems. For domestic hot water and heating energy.

Buffer storage tanks are used as domestic hot water and energy storage tanks and ensure a comfortable level of heat when bathing, for example.

Water is life! Water sustains life in many different ways. Water heating systems are subject to strict hygiene requirements so that our domestic water, which we also use for cooking, showering and washing, is available in optimal quality at all times.
The planning, design and operation of domestic water systems must meet high standards. Hoval is very aware of its responsibilities in this regard and fulfils these requirements conscientiously. After all, what matters is to ensure a reliable supply of water at the required temperature and safeguard the health of the occupants in a single-family home.

Water also stores energy! In any heating system, heat is obtained from valuable resources. This makes it all the more important to use this energy cost-effectively and responsibly.
However, the heat demand does not always match the available heat output. A system component such as a “heat battery” is needed to decouple heat generation and heat consumption. An EnerVal buffer storage tank from Hoval is a simple but effective way to store surplus heating or solar energy until heating is needed in the building. The heating works at maximum efficiency in the background while you enjoy pleasant temperatures in the building throughout the day.

How big does my domestic hot water storage tank need to be?

The domestic hot water requirements in a single-family home vary depending on the number of residents and their habits. As a rule of thumb, the domestic hot water consumption per person and day is around 30 to 50 litres. The right size of storage tank depends on the daily amount required and the heating system.

If storage tanks are too large, much of the heat is lost, while reduced water circulation can cause legionella bacteria to form. If the storage tank is too small, the water will be used up quickly and the process of providing it again may be very slow or costly, depending on the system and heating device.

Your Hoval partner will help you to calculate and choose a domestic hot water storage tank that is suitable for your home.

The size of the buffer storage tank depends on the daily amount of water required.

Hygienic water heating

Water sustains life in many different ways. While the concentration of germs in natural watercourses is harmless due to the water temperature and movement, the highest standards of hygiene must be maintained in domestic water heating systems. For installations in the home, it is essential to prevent the formation of a biofilm in which bacteria, like harmful legionella, can grow. Legionella bacteria proliferate in standing water at temperatures of 32 to 42°C. For this reason, the domestic hot water system should reach high temperatures on a regular basis. Electrical auxiliary heaters with no circulation pipe can carry out thermal disinfection using automatic switching equipment. However, the domestic hot water should ideally never drop below a temperature of 60°C and the water should not be allowed to stand in the pipes for long periods. Provided these requirements are met, the legionella bacteria will no longer represent a danger to the human organism.
Hoval domestic water systems meet all hygiene requirements with optimised energy efficiency.

Flow, temperature, water exchange and nutrient supply are key factors for domestic water hygiene.

What does water hardness mean for my domestic hot water system?

Limescale and deposits can be an issue in the domestic water system, just like many other household appliances. Water hardness refers to the calcium and magnesium compounds dissolved in the water. The higher their proportion, the higher the hardness level.

If water that is too hard is used without any treatment, there is a risk of corrosion, which may shorten the service life of the water heating system. Hygiene also suffers since deposits like limescale provide a breeding ground for germs. Hoval has the right solution for all levels of water hardness, so that the system functions optimally even when using hard water.

To ensure that your system runs smoothly, it is important that you know the water hardness.

How the buffer storage tank supplements the heating system

Buffer storage tanks serve as intermediate storage tanks for the surplus energy that a heat generator produces – and retain it until the energy is required in the building. If the heat generators are supplying more energy than is currently needed in the rooms, the steel buffer storage tank stores it for the time being – for example, if a solar plant or boiler is generating more heat in the winter or the heat pump is producing more cooling in the summer due to its integrated cooling function. The stratification principle and the good thermal insulation ensure that the surplus heating water remains available for a longer period. A suitable buffer storage tank supports the heat generator and reduces heating costs by lowering energy consumption.

The purpose of the buffer storage tank is to store surplus energy or domestic hot water temporarily.

Sisteme de stocare a apei calde menajere: CombiVal and MultiVal

The conventional method of water heating is to use water storage tanks, which use the heating system in the building as a heat source. A wide range of floor-mounted units are available for heating and storing domestic water. CombiVal from Hoval are calorifiers in a stainless steel or enamelled design that meet every requirement. For example, extra-large heat exchanger surface areas are provided for use with a heat pump. The MultiVal product series is designed with an additional heating coil for a combination with a solar plant. The perfect insulation helps to save energy while the high-quality components guarantee a long service life.

Domestic hot water storage tank with integrated heat pump: CombiVal WP

The CombiVal WP domestic hot water storage tank with integrated heat pump obtains energy largely for free from the ambient air. An integrated air/water heat pump heats the domestic water and saves up to two thirds of the energy costs associated with water heating. Since the boiler is not needed in the summer months, the entire heating system works more efficiently – and you can save even more money with a photovoltaic system. As a side effect, the cellar or storage room in which the unit is set up can be cooled and dehumidified with the extract air. The CombiVal WP is cost-effective due to its energy consumption and its simple installation and maintenance processes.

VarioVal combination storage tank for heating and domestic hot water

The VarioVal combination storage tank combines two functions: storage of domestic hot water and heating water. The top section of the unit is used to store domestic hot water at a high temperature, while the middle and bottom of the unit keeps the heating water at the ideal temperature. The VarioVal storage tanks from Hoval save energy by offering highly stable temperature stratification.
Water can be taken from different heating layers according to needs. The benefits include the high efficiency of the heating system, which reduces operating costs, as well as the rapid provision of domestic hot water for the household. Virtually all models are also equipped with a coil for the solar plant.

TransTherm aqua L buffer storage solution

The main difference between the TransTherm aqua L buffer storage solution and a conventional storage tank system is the arrangement of the heat exchanger for water heating. In a storage tank system, the heat exchanger is integrated, but in a buffer storage solution, the storage tank is charged via an external heat exchanger. The main benefit of the TransTherm aqua L buffer storage solution is its high level of efficiency, since the system achieves a high domestic hot water output at a low charging output.

Sistem de preparare a apei calde menajere cu flux continuu: TransTherm aqua F / L

Continuous flow systems with fresh water stations are different from storage tank systems as they maintain little or no reserve of domestic hot water. This prevents heated water from being stored for longer periods. The main benefit of the continuous flow principle is that sanitary rooms and the kitchen are continuously supplied with fresh and hygienic domestic hot water. With the TransTherm aqua F/FS fresh water modules, Hoval has developed a powerful, compact system that requires limited space, is ready for connection and quickly supplies the domestic hot water required at any time.

EnerVal vas de stocare tampon

The EnerVal buffer storage tank only contains heating water. As the link between heat generation and consumption, its purpose is to ensure that the entire heating system operates efficiently, by balancing out differences between the generated and consumed energy. It provides intermediate buffer storage for surplus heat, such as that obtained via a solar plant during the day, and discharges it when it is needed. In this way, it decouples the generation of heat from its consumption in terms of time and in terms of hydraulics. The benefits of the buffer storage tank are that the heating does not need to react to every small demand, and the heat from cost-effective, renewable sources can be used more effectively. The Hoval EnerVal range comprises many different types with graduated sizes and can meet a wide variety of technical requirements. That means the right EnerVal buffer storage tank with the right volume can be found for virtually any heating system.
